MovieGeo FAQ

The short answers to how the daily game works, what counts as a filming location, and how every pin becomes a score.

What is MovieGeo?

MovieGeo is a daily game that combines film knowledge with geography. You read a clue about a memorable scene and place a target where you think that scene was filmed.

How many questions are in a game?

A daily game contains seven film scenes. Each scene is worth up to 5,000 points, for a maximum total of 35,000.

Do I need to know every movie?

No. The title is always shown, and the clue includes visual or geographic details that may help even if you have not seen the film recently.

Are you asking for the story setting or the filming location?

The answer is the real featured filming location. A scene may be set somewhere else, so the answer note explains important stand-in locations and studio work.

Why is one answer a city while another is a landmark?

The target follows the scene. A sequence spread across several streets may use a city-level answer, while a scene tied to one castle, hotel, beach, or monument may use a specific site.

How is my score calculated?

Your score is based on the distance between the center of your target and the featured location. Closer guesses earn more points, up to 5,000 for the scene.

Can I zoom the map?

Yes. Use the plus and minus controls to zoom and drag the map to reposition it. Normal page scrolling remains available outside those controls.

Where does the map data come from?

The world map uses Natural Earth geographic data. It is a simplified game map rather than a street-level navigation map.

How are filming locations checked?

Questions are reviewed against reliable sources such as official tourism boards, film commissions, production material, archives, and established film references. We also record whether a shot used a real exterior, a studio interior, or several locations.

Will there be more game modes?

Daily is the first mode. City-focused and longer-play formats may be added after the core game has been tested with real players.
